Dr. Robert Ledgard(Antonio Banderas), a renowned plastic surgeon, is trying to create a new skin, after his wife was severely burned in a car crash. He eventually creates a synthetic skin, that can withstand virtually any kind of damage, but is still sensitive to touch. However, he needs a guinea pig, and chooses a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.
